GRANDMA ROSE’S COUGH SYRUP
1 yellow or white onion, peeled and chopped
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice, approx. 2 small lemons’ yield
Mix all together in heavy saucepan (coated cast iron such as Le Creuset works great.)
Bring to boil over medium heat. Turn heat down but hot enough to keep the mixture at a slow boil/simmer.
Continue boiling until onions are mushy and the mixture is thick and syrupy.
Cool slightly and take by the spoonful for cough relief throughout the day.
Transfer to a glass jar with lid and refrigerate at the end of the day or after your last dose of the day.
On subsequent days, take a spoonful right out of the jar or gently warm in a pan on the stove. Please do not microwave your medicine!
Using this tried and true remedy along with Fresh Air Fare Face Steams can really help you kick nasty colds and bronchial crud out of your system, and get you feeling better!
Thank you, Grams, for the sensible remedy and for all of your teachings.
